He was one of the promotion heroes near Holstein Kiel in 2024-Benedikt Pichler is now leaving this year’s Bundesliga relegation. At Hannover 96, a new beginning should be successful for the attacker.
Striker Benedikt Pichler changes from Bundesliga promoted Holstein Kiel to second division Hannover 96. The 27-year-old Austrian is already the seventh newcomer for the new head coach Christian Titz.
“After four years at Holstein Kiel, I had the feeling that I wanted to tackle a new challenge now. For me, Hannover 96 is the right club for it,” said Pichler in a club announcement. “The anticipation of 96 is great and I can’t wait to start at the end of the week.”
In addition to Pichler, Bastian Allgeier (SSV Ulm), Jonas Sterner (also Holstein Kiel), Maurice Neubauer (SV Elversberg), Franz Roggow (Borussia Dortmund), Benjamin Källman (KS Cracovia) and rental returnee Marius Wörl (Arminia Bielefeld) have joined the team from Lower Saxony.
Pichler switched from Austria Vienna to Kiel in August 2021. He played a central role in the historic Bundesliga promotion of the North Germans in 2024.
“The first Bundesliga promotion from Holstein Kiel will remain closely connected to the name Benedikt Pichler forever,” said Kiel’s sports director Olaf Rebbe. Not only with his decisive goal, he has an important part “in this historical event and left big traces in his four years in the club”.
In the Bundesliga, however, Pichler had a hard time. Due to the injury, he only came to 18 missions last season, seven of them in the starting eleven. He only scored a goal.
“After the past season was less satisfactory for him for various reasons, he has now decided to strive for a change,” said Rebbe.
