In the final of the 2023 European Women’s Basketball Championship, Belgium defeated Spain 64-58 and reached its first European championship in its history.
In the final match held at Arena Stozice in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, Spain was ahead 17-13 in the first quarter and entered the circuit with a 32-25 lead.
Although Spain was ahead 48-43 in the third quarter, Belgium closed the gap in the last quarter and took the lead and won the match 64-58 by 6 points.
In Belgium, Emma Meesseman played an important role in the victory as the game’s top scorer with 24 points.
On the other hand, Meesseman was named the “Most Valuable Player” (MVP) of the tournament.
Finishing the tournaments in 2017 and 2021 with the third place, Belgium won its first European championship in its history.
