Belgians discover luguber network on X: Bots spread millions of images of child abuse

What if ordinary and innocent hashtags on social media lead to images of child abuse? No obscure corner of the internet, but simply on X – the former Twitter. A Brussels organization brought a hallucinatory network to the light of hacked and fake accounts that spread millions of images. The investigation, Operation X-Ploitation, started as a search for Russian influencing campaigns. However, what the researchers thought was much darker. “That this is possible on a mainstream platform is downright shocking,” says Child Focus.
