Belgian-Turkish drug trafficker arrested at Swiss border after 26 years on the run | News

A joint patrol of the German and Swiss police subjected the fugitive 47-year-old man to a check at the border crossing from Weil am Rhein – Friedlingen (Germany) to Basel (Switzerland). He tried to travel from Germany to Switzerland.

During that check it turned out that international police services had been looking for the 47-year-old Belgian-Turkish man for years. He is said to have been involved in heroin smuggling in 1998 and is therefore wanted by Turkey for extradition.

The police arrested the man and brought him to trial on Tuesday afternoon. A judge sent him to prison, where he now awaits possible extradition to Turkey.
