But four -legged friends who come from a bona fide breeder can also turn into a bijthond. “We see that 92 percent of those dogs appear to have physical pain,” says Yvette.
For example, Deckel Ollie ended up with her after he had jumped high and someone in his stomach had bitten. During a medical examination, it turned out why Ollie had such a short fuse: “It was shew on an X -ray that he had a piece of metal in his stomach,” Yvette explains. Since his abdominal pain has been remedied, Ollie has not bitten anymore.
She allows owners to keep a close eye on their dog and to ring the bell with deviant behavior. “We are not on top of it at the start of the bite career of a dog.”
Dog drowning dog
Yvette has now found a new home for Ollie, but at Kiki her bite past is in the way. The behavioral expert sees that it is often very difficult to relocate a dog if it has bitten before. “The asylum does not want him and the vet often does not want to euthanize him, because it is a healthy animal. People really can’t go anywhere and sometimes even decide to drown their dog.”
To prevent it from getting out of hand, owners must have their dog checked if they show biting behavior, Yvette thinks. “It is important that you have thorough research done by a veterinarian or behavioral expert.”
She therefore hopes that the owner of the Labrador that Eric bit reports to her. “Can this be prevented in the future or this dog has a lot of pain and is life for this dog just not to be done because of the pain? Unfortunately we see that very often.”
