Sadness at the beekeepers’ association in Ruinen. For the second time, a bee -tree behind the Bartolomeüskerk, just outside Ruinerwold, was destroyed. “This time the tree was deliberately cut off with a large secateurs,” says board member Jan Willem Benning.
For a year and a half the tree was not far from the Wold Aa, after the previous tree was cracked. A donation of the beekeeper association, which has been planting a bee tree in the municipality every year since the 100-year anniversary.
“I think the tree was about one and a half meters high,” Benning mourns. “If you look at the trunk, you will see that he has been cut with secateurs. No small secateurs, that must have been a big one. Because with a little one you don’t cut it off.”
A bee tree is a blossom tree that grows rapidly. Every year in August large bunches with white flowers arrive. “Bees love it,” says the Beekeeper Association’s board member. “Like other insects. This tree added something to biodiversity. Moreover, he was in a nice place. But why it always goes wrong here, I don’t know.”
The tree stood between two posts, clearly no case of weeds. “I have spoken to several people about the tree, but they have not seen anything. I hope the perpetrator reports, then we will talk to him.”
The beekeepers’ association has not yet given up the hope of a large beautiful flowering tree behind the church. “I think there will be a tree again. But maybe this time we should consult with the board of the church, whether he can get closer.”
