Michiel Becx retired during the seventh stage of the Dakar Rally on Sunday. The 50-year-old rally driver from Vessem crashed into a large stone and was unable to continue the race. It is still unclear whether he will try to complete the rally without competition.

On the rest day on Saturday, Becx indicated to Omroep Brabant that he did not find the course that tough in the first six stages. “I thought it wasn’t too bad, yes. There were a lot of stones, but the course was not very difficult. The last day was long.”

On Sunday, the Brabant driver retired after crashing into a stone. The car had so much damage that it was no longer possible to drive out. Becx is out of the competition, but may still participate outside of competition. It is not yet clear whether he will try that.

Problems at Van Kasteren
There were also problems with his teammate Janus van Kasteren. Just like Becx, the Veldhoven resident crashed into a stone and the car suffered a lot of damage. Ultimately, he arrived 4.15 hours later than stage winner Mattias Ekström.

Look at Da Karretje

Omroep Brabant is also closely following the Brabant participants in this Dakar Rally. Until January 18, there is Da Karretje every day with the experiences of reporters Nynke Cuperus, Ronald Sträter and Leon Voskamp on the website, TV and via YouTube.
