Becker seizes leading role in Berlin derby, Doan scores with a big win in Freiburg | NOW

Sheraldo Becker has claimed a leading role on Saturday in Union Berlin’s first game of the new Bundesliga season. The Suriname international helped his team with a goal and an assist to a 3-1 win in the Berlin derby against Hertha BSC. Former PSV player Ritsu Doan contributed with a goal to SC Freiburg’s 0-4 victory over FC Augsburg.

After more than half an hour, Becker provided the assist on Jordan Siebatcheu’s opening goal at Union Berlin-Hertha. Five minutes after the break, the attacker was accurate on a pass from Janik Haberer. Robin Knoche made it 3-0, after which Dodi Lukebakio saved the honor for Hertha.

Eleven minutes before the end, Doan scored the fourth and final goal for Freiburg against Augsburg. The Japanese made the switch from PSV to the German club last month. Michael Gregoritsch, Vincenzo Grifo and Matthias Ginter scored the other goals for Freiburg, where Mark Flek was under the bar.

The newly promoted Werder Bremen started the season with a 2-2 draw at VfL Wolfsburg. Josuha Guilavogi saved a point for the home team six minutes before the end.

Borussia Mönchengladbach was 3-1 too strong for TSG Hoffenheim, which was ten men from the nineteenth minute due to a second yellow card for Stefan Posch. FSV Mainz 05 won 1-2 at VfL Bochum.

Later in the day, Borussia Dortmund will play against Bayer Leverkusen in front of their own audience. Kick-off at Signal Iduna Park will be at 6:30 PM. Bayern Munich opened the season on Friday with a resounding victory over Eintracht Frankfurt (1-6).
