Finnish biathlon star Tero Seppälä29, was shocked to hear his Norwegian counterpart Sivert Bakken27, of death on Tuesday.
The sad news has affected the entire sports community, and several athletes and sports influencers have remembered Bakken.
– The entire biathlon community is currently deeply shocked by the news. I wish strength to Sivert’s loved ones and teammates, Seppälä messaged Iltalehte on Tuesday evening.
Seppälä and Bakken have toured the same races for years. The joint competitions were put on hold in the early 2020s, when the Norwegian suffered from heart problems.
However, Bakken returned to biathlon courses for last season.
Seppälä remembers his colleague fondly.
– He was a really nice person and a good competitor, Seppälä said.
On Tuesday, Bakken was found dead in his hotel room in Lavazè, Italy.
The Norwegian had skied just two days earlier in the 15 km mass start race at the World Cup.
He finished 20th in the competition. Seppälä was 18th in the same competition.
