Beach volleyball world championship: Borger/Sude miss the quarterfinals

Karla Borger and Julia Sude missed the quarterfinals of the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Rome. In the round of 16, the duo from Düsseldorf lost against the Canadians Sophie Bukovec and Brandie Wilkerson 1:2 (21:19, 19:21, 10:15).

After a strong start by the German hopefuls, Bukovec/Wilkerson increasingly took control. Borger/Sude then had no chance in the deciding set. It was the first defeat in the fifth game of the tournament for those third in the European Championship.

The last German hopes for the women’s World Cup now rest on Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, who also meet Cannon/Sponcil (USA) in the round of 16 on Thursday (12:00 p.m.).
