More than 60 years after their breakthrough, the Beach Boys celebrate a chart comeback: their greatest hits album “Sounds of Summer: The very best of the beach boys” ranked 14th in the Billboard 200 edition of June 28, 2025. The album thus reaches a new top -class placement – even exceeds the original peak from 16th place in its publication in 2003.

The sudden death of founding member Brian Wilson, on June 11, 2025 at the age of 82, apparently triggered a wave of nostalgia. The increased attention not only takes the jump into the top 20 of the Billboard 200, but also for a new entry to 20th place on the Billboard Top Streaming Albums.

A total of 56 albums in the top 40

The album “Sounds of Summer” was originally released in 2003 and is available in two versions. The standard version contains 30 songs-all top 40 hits in the Billboard Hot 100. The expanded version includes 80 titles of the band’s musical heritage. The standard version includes number 1 hits such as “I Get Around”, “Help Me, Rhonda”, “Good Vibrations” and “Kokomo”, as well as classics such as “Surfin ‘USA”, “California Girls” and “Wildn’t It Be Nice”.

A total of 56 albums of the band made it into the Billboard 200. 22 albums landed in the top 40. The last comparable success was in 2012 with the studio album “That’s why God Made the Radio”, which took 3rd place and stayed in the top 40.

The Beach Boys say goodbye to Brian Wilson

“The world mourns a genius today. And we mourn the loss of our cousin, our friend and our partner in a great musical adventure,” explained the Beach Boys in a statement.

“Brian Wilson was not just the heart of the beach Boys. He was the soul of our sound. The melodies he dreamed. And the emotions he put in every note. They changed the course of music forever. His incomparable talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack of countless life all over the world. Together we gave the world the American dream of optimism, joy and a feeling of freedom. Music that made people feel good, made them believe in summer and endless possibilities. “
