BBL-Playoffs: Baskets Bonn force game five against Bayern Munich – Basketball – Sport

The game started spectacularly with an emergency throw just before the end of 24 seconds by Jeremy Morgan, who landed Brett for three points in the basket from a distance. And Morgan immediately added a second three in the next attack. But Bayern also proved to be accurate in the early stages and soon equalized to make it 8:8. As in the first three games, the game was hard fought, but at a high level, especially on the offensive. That’s why the first quarter ended with the home side having a narrow 26:24 lead.

High offensive level before the break

A minute and a half into the second quarter, a three-pointer from Saulius Kulvietis made it 29:28 for Bonn for a Munich time-out. The game remained thrilling because both teams converted some of the wildest throws and nobody was able to break away. A 48:44 lead by Bonn shortly before the end was shortened by a three by Vladimir Lucic. The Bayern player was fouled while throwing, but rejected the free throw that was due. So Bonn led at half-time with 48:47.

Bayern came out of the dressing room better and started with a 7:3 run to 54:51. Shortly thereafter, the Baskets had to cope with the loss of Oleksandr Lypovyy, who twisted his ankle in an unfortunate collision with Morgan and was unable to continue playing. Bayern maintained their lead in the period that followed, but were unable to break away. Instead, Bonn came closer and closer and took the lead again (61:60) through a long two by Kulvietis, which led to a Bayern time-out. Led by the strong Morgan, the Baskets extended their lead to 66:60. But here, too, the opponent could not be shaken off and at the end of the quarter the guests had a narrow 66:64 lead.

Jackson-Cartwright decides the crunch time

In the final quarter, the fight dictated the action and scoring rates dropped dramatically for both sides while the tension remained at the boiling point. A four-point game (three points plus free throw) by Kulvietis gave Bonn a 74-70 lead. Both teams had already reached the foul limit in the middle of the quarter and the free-throw line was increasingly used. The baskets defended strongly in this phase and repeatedly pulled fouls in front, with which they were allowed to go to the line.

With a spectacular alley-oop dunk by Javontae Hawkins, the Baskets took the lead by eight points for the first time (78:70). An unsportsmanlike foul by Jackson-Cartwright brought Bayern back into play because Nick Weiler-Babb converted both free throws, was sent to the line again in the following possession by a foul on the lay-up and shortened to 77:80. Jackson-Cartwright’s response came in the form of a step-back three-pointer for 83-77. Shortly thereafter, the Bonn MVP drew the offensive foul against Weiler-Babb, who was fouled out with it. In the last Bayern attack, Jackson-Cartwright Ognjen Jaramaz stole the ball and thus denied him the chance to equalize a threesome.

In the end, Jackson-Cartwright was the top scorer of the game with 20 points. Morgan added another 16 points for Bonn, Hawkins and Kulvietis each got 15 points.
