Baskets Oldenburg’s run of success in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) continues. On Saturday evening, the Lower Saxony team won against the Central German BC with 91:84 (47:41) and celebrated their fifth win in a row.

With the victory, the Baskets have caught up with the middle of the table and can now even look towards the play-offs again with twelve points. The best Oldenburg thrower was Nicholas Tischler with 19 points. The top scorer of the game was guest player Spencer Reaves, who scored 27 points.

There will be a reunion with the MBC in three weeks, and coach Lazar Spasic’s team will compete in Weißenfels on January 30th. The next BBL game takes Lower Saxony to Heidelberg next Friday.

Guard Woodard will stay until the end of the season

Before tip-off, Oldenburg announced that guard James Woodard, who was signed a few days before the start of the season, would stay until the end of the season. “James made an excellent impression right from the start, plays with quality on offense and defense and is also an important player for the team off the floor,” said Srdjan Klaric, Sports Director of EWE Baskets.

Baskets with a weak start, …

After a weak start – the first points only came after two minutes – Oldenburg turned things around and took the lead with seven points in a row, which they only briefly let go of again in the entire first half.

… but then dominant

While the Baskets’ defensive behavior could initially be improved, they also got a better handle on it in the middle of the first round. In the meantime they were ahead by eleven points (16th/45:34). Nevertheless: The MBC, which had actually requested that the game be postponed due to the weather, continued to hold up well and was able to keep the deficit small at the break.

Oldenburg is losing its cool

The home team started the second half brilliantly with a 12-0 run, including two three-pointers in a row from Tischler (24/59:41). The Oldenburg team continued to score reliably after that, going into the final quarter with a 13-point lead.

But the “Wolves” didn’t give up and fought their way back (35./72:77). Oldenburg now seemed nervous, their coolness was gone and the final phase turned into a tremor. The MBC missed the chance to equalize, but in return Michale Kyser scored a layup with 22 seconds left to make it 87:82. That was enough to bring home the win.
