The Hamburg Towers have caused a big surprise in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). Before the record set of 12,015 spectators, the Hanseates celebrated a 74:70 (30:32) success against Bayern Munich, which increased the chances of direct play-off participation.
The move from the domestic island parking hall to the arena in the Volkspark in Hamburg was therefore worth it. The team of coach Benka Barloschky was lying back with two points in a gripping game on Easter Sunday. But then the audience drove the home team to the fifth victory in series. The towers also went out of the field for the seventh time in a row.
Ivey’s threesome shortly before the end the game decides
Jan-Niklas Wimberg contributed 14 points to victory, Jaizec Lottie marked 13 points for the towers, who dominated the game, especially after the change of sides, and were in the meantime with 14 points. The master fought back again, the ex-Hamburg Justus Hollatz brought Munich up to two points 80 seconds before the end. But a threesome from Brae Ivey 18 seconds before the final ceremony made the preliminary decision and had the domestic fans cheered.
Equally with sixth place
In the table, the towers are now ninth with sixth place, which would mean direct moving into the play-offs. A place in the play-ins is withinpentory in view of the advantage on the tenth of Rasta Vechta (defeated against Würzburg).
