BBC journalists strike against local radio cuts | show

BBC journalists are going on strike on June 7 and 8 because they disagree with budget cuts. The British radio and television broadcaster wants 39 local radio stations to collaborate more and share programs, the broadcaster itself reports.

According to the organizer of the strike, the National Union of Journalists, many journalists will be fired. The union has entered into discussions with the BBC to limit the consequences for staff and radio listeners, but is not yet satisfied with this.

The union is also afraid that the cutbacks and the digitization of the channel will have consequences for people at home. For example, listeners who do not have access to digital news would be disadvantaged and lose “trusted presenters who have become friends”.

It is not the first time that journalists from the National Union of Journalists have taken action against the BBC’s decision. In March of this year, they also took to the streets to protest against the austerity measures.
