BB Trickz: scam or star?

Rarely does Spanish music, generally lagging behind global trends and quite fond of conventions when it comes to setting out its strategic lines, offers its consumers a product that gives rise to debate, to quick falls in love and intense hatred, to polarizations. But behold, a multinational has decided to turn a very recent homeland TikTok star into a brilliant musical phenomenon: BB Trickz has just launched into the ring with a first installment, the very short epé (just over a quarter of an hour), Trickstar, that has all the urban, cool and modern vibes wondering: Is it a scam or is it a personal and non-transferable roll?

Many of us met Belize Kazi (real name, we assume, from BB Trickz) in one of his TikTok videos in which he rapped, with that voice of a Gainsbourg nymph and a posh Barcelona, while driving: “Sorry mom I know I’m the worst. I know you don’t like me smoking but fuck my lung / I know you don’t like me fucking / but fuck the condom / Not dressed like a slut, mom, it’s hot”. He was rapping to say something: Belize has its own flow, it rides on the rhythms as it pleases, to release its non sequiturs, which, really, transit between impudence, delirium and discovery (more on that later).

Apparently the thing comes from further still: A few years ago, for example, a naughty Belize starred on the covers of several Santillana manuals (Language and Literature, Technology, for example). But his leap to popularity was, of course, when several of his 20-second videos went viral on TikTok. They caught the attention of a multinational that has ended up paying the young Catalan a record that sounds very cheap (bases bought to cholón to North American producers that sell them at reasonable prices) but also nothing that is being done right now in Spain. And therein lies the key in these times so saturated with characters.

“Girl, I understand you / I would hate myself too”, BB releases in one of the songs of ‘Trickstar’. The truth is that the 15 minutes of the epé are pure anthology if one attends exclusively to the lyrics and the vocal delivery of the young woman. Her most comprehensive track of hers to date, ‘Sorry Mom’ (on 2Pac’s ‘Dear Mama’), has it all, swag, shamelessness and dodgy confessionality: “Fuck you dad / I was born in the Hospital del Mar / and my father was out there DJing / I’m sure I was born there, you know? / coming out of a pussy, literally / you’ve given me a terrible time”, “When I was little they didn’t put The Teletubbies on me / they put real movies on me / where real boobies came out.” But it is that if many still assimilate the distant “It was not squirt, it was pee” from one of his distant videos, now we have the already unfading “You fucked Yung Beef / now you have the AIDS“. Who was going to tell Fernandito KitKat, after so many years of being the badass king of the underground rag-picker, that he was going to be destroyed without consideration by a girl who looked like a doll? Actually, Belize explains it: “I don’t know what they see me / I’m a daughter of a bitch / I really think that’s why they like it / My everything tastes like fruit / Look how I enjoy it” (the song is titled ‘Sentimental’).

Urban connoisseurs link BB Trickz to Ice Spice, the new princess of drill (in vogue variant of trap, more gangster than drug addict), who was also born on social networks and who now triumphs with his songs of carefree music, rhymes based on quotables and charisma in delivery. She has already entered the Kardashian clan (apparently, the daughter of Kim and Kanye West, North, is a fan), fashion brands fight for it and she does not stop starring in campaigns of all kinds. And that she has just released her first recording reference, an epé titled ‘Like…’? . I am sure that soon we will see BB Trickz reach similar heights in our country. At the moment, he proclaims from his Instagram in a photo surrounded by a good pile of supposed 50 bills: “100k [100.000] for 1 tiktok”. And even Karol G has recorded himself lip-synching with a verse from ‘Missionsuicida’.
