Bayern Munich | Report: Internal criticism of Pavard is getting louder

Benjamin Pavard has been set at Bayern for weeks. If the world champion is fit and operational, he works the defensive right flank. Pavard’s performance has been quite inconsistent in the past few months, which is why internal criticism of the 25-year-old is said to have grown recently.

As stated in a report by the “kicker”, the Frenchman was recently attested to stagnation in performance internally. Instead of continuing to build on the good level that Pavard has shown since moving from VfB Stuttgart to FC Bayern in the summer of 2019, the coaching team registers a “lack of development” in the defender, according to the media report.

Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann is actually planning on the defensive flank with a different type of player than Pavard embodies. The 42-time national player clearly has his greatest qualities in defense and still dreams of a regular place as a central defender with the German record champions.

Nagelsmann instead would like his full-backs to have more offensive drive, and the profile of a possible new signing in this position is geared towards this.

Pavard is under contract with FC Bayern until 2024

As things stand at present, it doesn’t seem impossible that FC Bayern will strengthen the right-back position again in the summer. The internal competition for Pavard for Africa Cup winner Bouna Sarr and youngster Josip Stanisic has also not been able to implement the desired specifications of the Bayern head coach.

In the current season, Pavard is currently a fixture at the Munich team after recovering from an ankle injury at the start of the season. However, as things currently stand, it is no longer certain that this will remain the case beyond the summer of 2022. The working paper of the world champion runs until 2024.
