Bayern Munich | Purchase option for defensive talent: will the record champions remain tough?

Defending talent Bright Arrey-Mbi was not able to assert himself at FC Bayern, instead the 20-year-old found his luck on loan at second division club Hannover 96. A permanent transfer is imminent, but the sticking point is still the amount of the transfer fee.

According to the “kicker”, the 20-year-old central defender Bright Arrey-Mbi will finally leave FC Bayern in the summer and join Hannover 96. The Lower Saxony are already planning for the coming season with the massive defensive player, in the next few years he should mature into a top player on a leash.

For the purchase option of 450,000 euros stipulated in the agreed loan agreement, H96 can free the left foot from FC Bayern without further negotiations. According to the trade journal, however, the Hanoverians hope to be able to lower the sum a little in talks with the German record champions. It is unclear whether the people of Munich will get involved.

Arrey-Mbi, who was born in Cameroon and grew up in Kaarst in the Lower Rhine region, came to England as a teenager for his mother’s professional reasons, where he first played in the youth department at Norwich City and then at Chelsea.

Flick helps Arrey-Mbi make his Champions League debut with FC Bayern

In 2019, FC Bayern finally snapped up the services of the defensive talent, as a 16-year-old he already took part in professional training under the then head coach and current national coach Hansi Flick.

In December 2020 he made his debut with the Bayern stars – and in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid. However, Arrey-Mbi was not able to assert himself under Flick, rather he was used regularly in the second team in the 3rd division.

This was followed by a loan move to Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln in the second half of the 2021/22 season and another loan to Hannover 96. Bright Arrey-Mbi made 16 competitive appearances for Hannover in the past season, making 15 starts.
