National coach Hansi Flick gave special praise to Leroy Sané at FC Bayern’s DFB Cup game.
“It’s in him. He has enormous footballing quality, enormous speed,” said Flick during the half-time break in Munich’s quarter-finals against FC Freiburg on “Sky”. “Everything you need as a top player, and he combines that.”
Flick also referred to the new Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel, who had said that at 27 Sané was at an age “where the course is now being set mercilessly”. Everyone knows “how outstanding he can be. But he’s too old to be a potential player or a talent. That was just a first step,” said Tuchel. Flick said about his national player: “He alone is responsible for it.”
After the past international matches against Peru (2-0) and Belgium (2-3), he draws a positive conclusion “on the whole”, said Flick, “because we saw a lot of young players and gave them the chance to play. (…) I think our squad has grown a bit in width.” He and his team would follow “a clear plan”.
