Bayern Munich | Babbel counts on Kimmich: “Turns around everywhere, just not where he should play”

After the recent negative run in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern is looking for explanations for the decline in form. Julian Nagelsmann has to find answers during the international break, otherwise the star coach faces trouble. Former Munich player Markus Babbel has now explained where the trainer should start.

Four league games in a row without a win, most recently an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at FC Augsburg – such a series of flops hasn’t happened at FC Bayern for a long time.

It is therefore not surprising that the mood on Säbener Straße is depressed at the moment, with coach Julian Nagelsmann in particular coming under increasing pressure.

According to ex-national player Markus Babbel, his former club is currently suffering from an “accumulation of small things”.

In Augsburg, the team actually “didn’t make a listless appearance”, but “it doesn’t fit together anymore at the moment”, said the 50-year-old in an interview with “sky” Celebration.

FC Bayern: Sharp criticism of Joshua Kimmich

According to Babbel, “Bayern trainee” Nagelsmann is now required to “get the horsepower on the road” and “to talk tacheles.” He shouldn’t stop at big names either.

“Certain players have to be told that they should do what the coach demands on the pitch. Otherwise you won’t play anymore,” the 1996 European champion explained.

He picked Joshua Kimmich as an example. “He has achieved a standing in recent years, and we all said: world class, outstanding. But I noticed last season that he no longer has the discipline to play in his position,” Babbel said critically on.

Kimmich plays “sometimes on the six, then on the eight, as a ten or left winger. He turns around everywhere, just not where he should play,” said the former defender.

In Babbel’s opinion, FC Bayern’s driving force falls too easily: “Meanwhile, I have the feeling that he wants to shine and that because of his status you can’t attack him, let alone touch him.” That’s why he expects Kimmich to “resist more again”.

And if not? “Then you have to put Kimmich on the bench and send a signal if he doesn’t do what is required,” emphasized Babbel.
