Manuel Neuer apparently wants to end his career at FC Bayern Munich. This is what the “Kicker” reports. Accordingly, the 39-year-old has not yet decided whether he would like to continue his career beyond the current season. According to the report, the goalkeeper will make the decision around his 40th birthday in four weeks and will primarily depend on his physical well-being.
However, it is already clear that a transfer abroad, like the one Neuer’s long-time teammate Thomas Müller undertook when he moved to the Vancouver Whitecaps last summer, is out of the question for Neuer. Whether after this season or later, the goalkeeper wants to end his career in Munich.
According to the report, if Neuer extends his contract with FC Bayern again for another season, he will agree to hand over further games to Jonas Urbig in order to groom the 22-year-old as his successor. Such an agreement already applies this season.
If Neuer does not extend his contract, those responsible at Bayern would already trust Urbig as his successor. However, in the event of a new resignation, the club will still explore the goalkeeper market. However, Daniel Peretz, who is currently on loan to FC Southampton, and Alexander Nübel, who is playing on loan for VfB Stuttgart, are not planned as possible number one.
