After FC Bayern’s Champions League exit, Toni Kroos was critical of the broadcaster. He particularly dislikes the follow-up reporting.

Toni Kroos has expressed sharp criticism of the TV analysis after the semi-final second leg in the Champions League between FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain. The 2014 world champion followed Munich’s elimination on Wednesday evening in his adopted home of Madrid via the streaming service DAZN. He particularly disliked the weighting of the topics after the game.

In the podcast “Einfach mal Luppen” Kroos spoke to his brother Felix about the show. With a view to the reporting, he said: “You’re not at all like DAZN, so you first talk about possible yellow-red cards for an hour and then show the goals.” He then added: “It was a bit on my nerves. You can discuss the situation. But not only that.”

From the former midfielder’s point of view, the discussion revolved too much around the possible yellow-red card for Paris defender Nuno Mendes. Sport took a back seat.

In this context, Kroos referred to FC Bayern’s performance after the game. “The best examples were Bayern, the players and the coach. They said, of course these are situations that can have a decisive influence on the game. But they also said: That’s it for now. They also wanted to focus on sports,” explained the 36-year-old.

The six-time Champions League winner also criticized the structure of the show. “Then they had to go into advertising and then: Oh God, we haven’t shown the goals yet. Then we’ll score goals later. And goals are actually what you can analyze,” said Kroos.

In principle, one can talk about controversial scenes, Kroos further emphasized. “I understand that you have to talk about the cards and show the situations. That was already done during the game. And it’s completely fine afterwards too. But somehow the sporting aspect was clearly neglected for me.”

Finally, Kroos praised his former club for their performance in the premier class. “Huge compliments to Bayern. They presented themselves excellently throughout the entire Champions League season.”
