Pablo Laso is the new coach at FC Bayern Basketball. The 55-year-old Spaniard has agreed a contract with those responsible until 2025. Andrea Trinchieri leaves the club after three years.

The name has been circulating in professional circles for a long time – now it’s official: Pablo Laso and FC Bayern Basketball have agreed to work together. Accordingly, the 55-year-old Spaniard will take over as coach from the outgoing Andrea Trinchieri in the summer and will receive a contract until the summer of 2025.

“Pablo will have a positive impact on us”

“It’s a great honor and I’m happy to be in Munich. I’d like to thank this big club for thinking of me writing Bayern’s next chapter in the Euroleague and BBL,” said the Basque.

The club is “super happy” that it worked out with the signing of the former Spanish international. “Pablo will have a positive impact on us with his know-how and his personality, I’m very sure of that,” says Managing Director Marko Pesic.

Laso, who worked very successfully as Real Madrid’s head coach between 2011 and 2022 and won the Euroleague twice and six national championships with the “Royal”, had often been associated with the Munich team.

Trinchieri leaves the club after three years

FC Bayern is Laso’s first foreign post as a coach. In the summer of 2022 he resigned from Real because of a heart attack. He is said to have fully recovered from that.

For Andrea Trinchieri, the FC Bayern chapter is over after three years. The Italian, who has reached the Euroleague playoffs twice with Bayern and won the cup once, is associated with Virtus Bologna.
