Bayer Leverkusen is threatened with a longer Boniface absence

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will probably have to do without top striker Victor Boniface for a longer period of time.

According to media reports, the 23-year-old suffered a serious groin injury during training with the Nigerian national team and is now in danger of being out for Leverkusen for longer than the African Cup in Ivory Coast (Cote d’Ivoire) lasts (until February 11th).

An exact diagnosis has not yet been announced. According to media reports, the downtime will be around six weeks. Boniface has already left the national team. “Good luck guys. I wish you all the best,” he wrote on Instagram, followed by a broken heart.

Due to the injury to the center forward, who has already scored ten goals and prepared eight more in the current Bundesliga season, Leverkusen could also lose another player in the coming weeks. Nathan Tella (24) is a candidate to replace Boniface in the Super Eagles team. Tella was in Nigeria’s preliminary squad, but did not make it into the final squad.
