Bauer has a “great feeling” about the U21s after beating FC Bayern

Central defender Maximilian Bauer from FC Augsburg travels to the German U21s after the surprising victory over Bayern Munich with confidence – even if he got a bit of an explanation back home.

“Everyone there is actually a Bayern fan,” said the farmer from near Passau in a media round on Tuesday: “Even my best friend is a Bayern supporter. But he was able to forgive me to some extent.”

Bauer inflicted Bayern’s first defeat of the season (1-0) with FCA on Saturday. “It’s a great feeling to arrive with a win against Bayern. It definitely gives you a lot of confidence,” said the 22-year-old ahead of the U21 internationals against France in Magdeburg on Friday (6:15 p.m.) and four days later in Sheffield against England (8:45 p.m./each ProSieben Maxx).

Bauer sees the two encounters with the DFB selection primarily as an endurance test for the U21 European Championship in the coming year. “When you can compete internationally with the best, that’s a cool feeling. It’s twice as much fun,” said Bauer.
