‘Batgirl’ actress Ivory Aquino pleads with Warner Bros. to release film anyway | Movie

MovieIvory Aquino has written an open letter on social media to David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. The actress begs him to backtrack on his decision not to release ‘Batgirl’.

With her open letter, Ivory Aquino responds to reports from ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ that Warner Bros. ‘funeral screenings’ is going to love the scrapped movie ‘Batgirl’. Some insiders, such as crew members and actors, could still view the film, but after that the print will probably disappear forever in a physical or digital archive. However, several sources claim that the film studio has plans to destroy all the material. For example, they want to demonstrate to the IRS (the American tax authorities) that ‘Batgirl’ will not generate any income in the future.

Aquino asks in her open letter to reconsider this measure. “As much as I tried to stay strong these past few days, I cried with sadness. Today I had another night like that. As much as ‘Batgirl’ has been labeled a ‘woke’ movie, it has grown because the screenplay reflects the world we live in. For me it is a story about a father and his daughter. And that touches me, because my father passed away a year ago, just before I got this role. I hoped it would strike a chord with other kids around the world – grown and not so grown – who hold their fathers in high esteem and who can see ‘Batgirl’ as the story of that special bond.”

The actress describes how she found it difficult to talk to someone about the situation. “No one, other than those involved in the film, can really understand how we feel. But I feel like when I talk about it with my fellow actors, it feels like I’m throwing salt in the open wound.” Yet she has been able to vent her heart with a friend, it sounds like. He would have described the head of a company – in this case Zaslav – as one large cog, on top of increasingly smaller cogs. “A little movement through that big cog may seem small, but for those little cogs at the bottom, they can be multiplied tenfold and the consequences can be seismic.” She therefore asks that Zaslav “not view the small cogs as simply parts whose fate is determined by equations that yield profit”. “We are people and artists who – given the chance – can outdo the equation and multiply the profit exponentially.” According to Aquino, cast and crew have received a lot of support in recent days and that could also translate into revenue. “Please think about releasing ‘Batgirl’ after all,” she concludes.

Both Aquino and her character Yeoh are transgender, and it was the first time a DC live-action film would feature an overtly trans character. Aquino is known for her work in the 2017 miniseries ‘When We Rise’ in which she portrayed trans rights activist Cecilia Chung.
