Bastianini: “My World Championship starts at Silverstone. Bagnaia is the favourite, but…”

Last days of vacation in Ibiza for the Ducati rider, new Tissot ambassador. “Lost time? No, every moment on a MotoGP is important to get to know the bike and your rivals”

Mario Salvini

– Milan

The first year as an official Ducatista, after the 4 victories and the third place finish in 2022, promised anything but. Enea Bastianini dressed in red was indicated by many and feared by his opponents as one of her favorites. Instead at the first Sprint, in Portimao, the fall, the fracture of the right scapula, the missed GPs. The recovery inevitably slow. And since this conversation has time as a leitmotif, the suspicion is that these months have been “wasted time” for Enea Bastianini. “But no, I wouldn’t call it that, on the contrary,” he reflects. “Time on a MotoGP bike is always precious for studying bikes and rivals. And for getting to know the team better, which is all new to me this year.”

Will your real World Championship start at Silverstone on 5-6 August?

“Probably yes. I have fewer and fewer games behind me than my opponents, but I think I’ll be back in England in the right physical condition.”

Meanwhile, enjoy the holidays.

“I’m in Ibiza. I love the sea, the water relaxes me deeply. But I continue to train”.

Have you ever taken a motorcycle holiday trip?

“No, I prefer to enjoy the bike on the track. On the road, riding is very different. At the limit, I could think of using it for short distances, perhaps for a weekend”.

The most adventurous trip?

“In 2018 in the Maldives, a unique experience. We made friends with some inhabitants, who led us to discover places that are still almost untouched, as well as to fish. Every day we visited a different area and it was very wild”.

And what would you like to do instead?

“A safari. Being in contact with nature and animals, seeing them free to immerse myself in long and different rhythms from the usual ones. An experience that I will do as soon as I have the opportunity”.

What are your passions, besides motorcycles?

“Fishing. It is an activity that usually takes place in silence, it gives me the opportunity to relax and, in a certain sense, to meditate. And in any case, when I have some time, I prefer to spend it at home, with my my girlfriend and my dog Hagrid! Maybe we’ll go hiking. We always like to discover new places.”

I like fishing, it relaxes me a lot and gives me the opportunity to meditate

We talk about books, TV, music…

“Unfortunately, I don’t read books often… I don’t have the time. I love watching documentaries on animals, they relax me. As well as music, I love listening to my hits in the car. At home, on the other hand, I prefer to be surrounded by softer notes, Ludovico Einaudi for example. It would be wonderful to attend one of his concerts”.

Your relationship with time: are you an organized person?

“No, I wasn’t methodical. I learned to be methodical thanks to work, which forces us to obsessive precision. It is no coincidence that I am Tissot ambassador”.

As he said, his championship starts now. With what goals?

“Win races, be consistent and know my team well.”

“Pecco Bagnaia is the favourite, but he will have quite tough rivals”.
