Eight years after the death of Frontman Chris Cornell, there is new hope for fans of Soundgarden. In an emotional Instagram post on the eighth day of the singer, bassist Ben Shepherd indicated a previously unpublished album of the rock band. The contribution is a tribute to Cornell and at the same time a quiet indication that there could soon be new music.

Soundgarden: A (new) last chapter

Since Cornell’s death in May 2017, the future of the band has been uncertain. Although guitarist Kim Thayil, drummer Matt Cameron and bass player Ben Shepherd officially ended, said the band for the end, but rumors about a possible posthumous album with unpublished music Chris Cornells did not stop circulating.

Then this was finally confirmed – by a legal dispute between the band members and Cornell’s widow Vicky Cornell. Both parties argued about the rights to songs that were taken up before Cornell’s death. In 2023 they finally agreed to publish the tracks together.

An album that “has no name yet”

Shepherd’s Instagram post now suggests that it could soon be so far with the sound garden album. In the article about the band’s Instagram channel, he writes about one of the unpublished songs: “It is a song that Chris and Matt wrote: ‘The Road Less Traveled’, for our album that has no name. […] Full of self -doubt and feelings of guilt – and yet he understood through the mere sound of his voice, what was going on in me, and forgave me. “

He also writes: “As a fan-and as a band member-to hear a song or two that brought Chris a few years ago and which develop in front of my ears and finger bubbles into a full-fledged sound garden song, feels like a glacier is slipping off the chest.”

In the end, Shepherd was aimed directly at his deceased bandmate: “We miss you, brother – see you when the time has come.”
