The Niners Chemnitz clinched their third win of the season in the EuroCup. The Saxons deservedly won at Aquila Basket Trento, but almost let their success be snatched away from them. In the end, Kevin Yebo secured the Germans two points in the fight for the round of 16.
Head coach Rodrigo Pastore’s team won in northern Italy with 105:94 (53:37). The Niners climb to seventh place in Group B, sixth place would be enough to advance. On top of that, it was the first success for Chemnitz in a foreign hall in the second most important European basketball competition at club level.
Mushidi’s buzzer beater heralds a strong quarter
The game started defensively. It took the Niners just over two minutes to score their first basket. The first four points belonged to Corey Davis. Trent even needed over four revolutions of the pointer to get to the first points. But once they found the basket, the Bianconeri started a little run and turned the game to 7:6 (5th minute) with a 7-0 run. But Chemnitz didn’t let the game get away from them and continued to defend hard and consistently. The Northern Italians were unable to break away and led by a narrow 20:19 after the first quarter – also because Kostja Mushidi sank a buzzer beater for three points.
The second round then belonged to the Niners. Mushidi, Kevin Yebo and Co scored as they wanted. By the break, the Saxons sank half of their three-point attempts – an incredible rate. The throws were well prepared, could often be taken without any pressure and fell through the trap beautifully. It was different for the Italians, who struggled against the German defense, which continued to be strong. Aquila Basket only had an advantage on the boards, especially those of the guests (8:5 offensive rebounds until the break). Chemnitz extended their lead and went into halftime with a comfortable lead of 16 points.

Yebo-Show brings the third victory
After the break, the guests picked up where they left off and dominated the game. However, many fouls on both sides increasingly took the flow out of the game, in which the Saxons were leading by 21 points (66:45, 25th). So in the end it got tight again, Trento got the second breath and crawled their way to within five points thanks to the great Andrej Jakimovski (30 points in the end) (92:97, 39th). But then Kevin Yebo turned things up again in crunch time, scoring Chemnitz’s last four baskets and increasing his points tally to 33. Shouts of “away win” rang through the hall in northern Italy, and the Niners cheered. In addition to Yebo, five other Saxons scored in double figures, a great team effort from the Pastore team.
