Despite a double-digit leadership in the meantime, Telekom Baskets Bonn lost to Bayern Munich and missed the BBL playoffs.
The Bonners lost to the German champion on Thursday evening with 86:90 (47:46) and can no longer achieve a place in the top ten. The last game of the main round at the Syntainics MBC on Sunday (4.30 p.m.) is therefore meaningless for Bonn.
Table leaders Munich, on the other hand, has the best chance of home rights in all series of playoffs. Bonn had already lost the first leg with 73:93. The best thrower at Bonn was Phlandrous Fleming Jr. with 27 points, for Munich Niels Giffey came to 21.
First half at eye level
Munich was accurate at the beginning, Bonn held against it. After an assist from Darius McGhee, Bonn’s Thomas Kennedy shortened per alley oop to 6: 8 before the center equalized with a basket. The first five threes were not fell at the Baskets, with the sixth attempt Till Pape put the hosts in the lead for the first time (18:15). With a strong block against Giffey, Bodie Hume made a 23:22 lead of the Baskets after the first quarter.
Bayern started in the second section with a 5-0 run, but Bonn stayed tuned – also thanks to shooting Guard Rihard’s Lomazs, who contributed ten points within three minutes. Bonn became more and more of the three-point line and met six out of seven attempts in the second quarter. At the half -time break, the Baskets were just ahead with 47:46.
Bonn slides out of the hand after a tour
In the third quarter, Bonn caught the much better start against the sleepy Munichers on the defensive. The previously unusually unusual Baskets playmaker Darius Mcghee also scored his first three points in the game from the outside – however, his only one should stay that evening. After two free throws from Jonathan Bären, Bonn led with eleven points (59:48). But Munich stabilized, the hit rate sank at Bonn. Justus Hollatz brought the guests back to five points shortly before the quarter (68:63).
After a threesome from Munich Jack White at the beginning of the final section, there were only two points ahead for Bonn. Seven minutes before the end of the game, Johannes Voigtmann brought Bayern back to the front with a basket (72:74).
In a highly exciting and intensive final phase, Bavaria led 86:84 one minute before the end and lost the ball, but Bonn threw it away again and fouled. Munich captain Vladimir Lucic sank his two free throws (84:88). Bonn made the next gymnasium for 38 seconds on the clock. Even though fruit is poured out both free throws and Bonn shortened again by Kennedy, Shabazz Napier from the free -wing line finally put the lid on it (86:90).
No consistency in this season
Ultimately, it was the consistency that the Baskets lacked this season. Throughout the course of the season, Bonn was never able to win more than two league games in a row. At the beginning of the year, after five defeats in a row, the Baskets slipped to 14th place and could never really recover from it.
