Baseball-players HCAW win Charles Urbanus-tournament at the expense of Amsterdam Pirates

The baseball players of HCAW have won the Charles Urbanus-tournament. In the final, Danny Rombley’s team defeated Amsterdam Pirates 4-1. “We have come into our rhythm more and I think we are ready for the season,” said Rombley.

The Charles Urbanus tournament is the prelude to the baseball competition. Rombley saw, among others, pitcher Jim Ploeger retire and catcher Jules Cremer leave. On the other hand, the arrival of pitcher Kaj Timmermans and infielder Delano Selassa, among others. “We have certainly become stronger, because we have a wider selection. Some guys make it difficult for me to make a line-up. But that is a luxury problem,” says Rombley.

Amsterdam Pirates

At Amsterdam Pirates, they saw the main sponsor take a step back. A number of supporting players also left, so Pirates has to fit in a lot of youth. Head coach Mervin Gario has to do that. He coached Hoofddorp Pioniers for the past five years and starts his first season with Amsterdam.

The baseball league starts again on Thursday. Reigning champion HCAW opens with a triptych against Amsterdam Pirates.

NH Sport was present and made a report about Mervin Gario. This will appear tomorrow in NH Sport’s TV broadcast and online.
