Baris Atik extends 1. FC Magdeburg: “Write history”

contract would have expired

Baris Atik (28) has decided to extend his contract at 1. FC Magdeburg. In the Transfermarkt interview, the offensive player recently spoke about his gratitude that he was able to gain a foothold again at FCM after he “really fell on his nose”. He had also considered a free transfer in the summer. The second division club did not announce how long the new contract will be valid instead. In the current season, Atik is the second-best scorer in coach Christian Titz’s team. Nobody from the current team scored as often as Atik in his time as Magdeburg.

“For me, 1. FC Magdeburg is something very special,” said Atik, who was promoted to the player with the most scorer points in a season in the 3rd division at FCM last season, after his extension. “I feel extremely comfortable and very valued at the club with these sensational fans. That’s why it wasn’t difficult for me to extend my contract. We still have a lot to do together and, as I said before, I want to continue making history with the club.”

Atik and Magdeburg would write history if they managed to stay up in the lower house. FCM have never managed two consecutive seasons in the 2nd Bundesliga after reunification. “Every player dreams of it, and no fan would blame you if the Bundesliga knocked and you were rewarded for your development over the past few years,” Atik told Transfermarkt. But he also emphasized that he is currently ignoring the interest of other clubs: “It is important for the team that I am there. I won’t let the team down by putting my head somewhere else.” Now the decision to stay was made earlier than one might expect.
