Barbara is poorly mobile due to a lung disease and connective tissue disease and cannot lift. Her household help recently announced that she can no longer help Magenta Zorg from employer with the care of her two cats. Via NH she posted a call on Sunday, asking if someone from the region can help hair.

The Alkmaarse is overwhelmed by the number of responses that she received within 24 hours. “It’s very busy on Facebook, I am really overloaded with messages from all over the Netherlands and answer them all,” she says. She now has a small network of helpers who live close by.

‘Little effort’

One of them is the 57-year-old Karin from Heerhugowaard. As manager of the Missing Cats Alkmaar Foundation, she is also a big animal lover herself. “I have 9 cats myself, so I do nothing but change litter boxes,” she jokes against NH. “For me that is a small effort once a week. Weird that Magenta makes care of it so hard about it. Bag out and in it, does not mean anything.”

Barbara brings so many people, from Noord-Scharwoude to Twente, a helping hand. “Almost nothing was organized for this kind of business. How nice would it be if I could bring people with these kinds of help with people who like to help? There are plenty of people who want to do something for someone else.”
