Bad Bunny is Artist of the Year on MTV VMAs

Bad Bunny has been named Artist of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards. Those awards were presented Sunday night at the Prudential Center in the Newark city of New Jersey. The singer from Puerto Rico defeated Drake, Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow and Lil Nas X. The award for best song of the year went to Billie Eilish for Happier Than Ever. The award for best music video went to Taylor Swift.

Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow were identified as the top contenders for an MTV VMA ahead of the awards ceremony. All three artists were nominated seven times. Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow earned their joint three nominations in the categories Best Collaboration, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction. Despite all his nominations, Kendrick Lamar ultimately failed to win an award.

Nicki Minaj received the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, a special award given to artists and directors of music videos. Dove Cameron was named Best New Artist. Harry Styles’ album Harry’s House won the award for best album of the year.
