Leroy Sané is repeatedly criticized for his fluctuating performance in the DFB team. Now he is receiving prominent support.
Abdullah Kavukcu, vice president of Sané’s Galatasaray Istanbul club, has spoken clearly about the debate about the offensive player. “Since Leroy has been with us, he has only talked about the World Cup. He has to be a regular player at the World Cup,” he said in an interview with “Sport Bild”. The Turk added a wish: “I wish Germany a great success at the World Cup. I dream of a World Cup final between Germany and Turkey.”
Given Sané’s fluctuating performance, there has been a recent debate about whether the left-footed player should even be part of the German squad. When he came on as a substitute in the second game against Ghana, he was even booed by the German fans.
In addition to wasted potential, the 30-year-old is repeatedly accused of a lack of body language. Kavukcu has a different image of Sané. “We cannot confirm the prejudices at all. The Leroy we see here is a completely different person,” emphasized the Vice President. “He has a good relationship with everyone, he jokes, he helps the young players in training, but also as a person. We actually just laugh with him the whole time.”
Despite the support from Istanbul, Sané is currently not experiencing an easy phase at Galatasaray. He has yet to score a competitive goal this year, and in the round of 16 of the Champions League against Liverpool FC he was only on the field for 45 minutes across both games.
