480 refugees are transferred to the arrival center in Tegel. The State Office for Refugee Affairs (LAF) no longer has a place in regular accommodation.

The disappointment of the 130 residents in the hostel on Otto-Braun-Strasse is great. Two months ago they were moved here at short notice from the container accommodation at Rohrdamm.

Now they have to leave their homes again within a week. The tourist season begins for the hostel in a prime location.

“We were promised that we would come to normal apartments with a kitchen and now this. We are disappointed,” says one of those affected. Many know the accommodation in Tegel from their first days in Berlin. The fear of accommodation there is great.

“There’s one bed next to the other. No privacy. How are our children supposed to study here in peace for school?” complains a mother. “We just want to sleep normally and cook.”

Many are now looking for a room in a shared flat. They don’t have much time. The move to Tegel is scheduled to take place on March 23.

When asked by the BZ, the LAF said: “The accommodation in Tegel is a temporary emergency measure until new accommodation is ready for occupancy.” How long the people will stay here is also uncertain this time.
