In its television editorial, Baby Etchecopar exploded against the latest media statements by Manuel Adorni granted to Jose Del Rio in the Mesa chica program LN+. In the report, the Chief of Staff presented for the first time a comprehensive explanation about the origin of the funds that are being investigated and acknowledged that he had omitted to declare part of his assets. Furthermore, during the interview, the official revealed that he presented corrective affidavits to the Anti-Corruption Office corresponding to 2023 and 2024, incorporating assets that did not appear in his original presentations.
According to his own explanation, the difference in assets would be around $500,000an amount whose origin he attributed to a combination of savings accumulated over years and profits obtained through investments in cryptocurrencies. “We save in black like all Argentines,” highlighted the coordinator of ministers. When Del Rio asked him why those funds had not been declared in a timely manner, he responded: “We did not declare it because the way to escape the old policy was to have savings in the black,” and maintained: “It would never have occurred to me to save in the black in those years.” “I built my assets before entering the Government,” he concluded.
These sayings were taken up by Etchecopar himself with strong virulence because he knew Adorni at that time. In fact, the then libertarian tweeter was a present and recurring figure in the host’s cycle, for approximately two years, being part of his journalistic team at Radio Rivadavia. There he mainly fulfilled the role of economic columnistanalyzing the macroeconomic situation, inflation, monetary policy, exchange market and business activity. Later, the television presenter brought the economist as a panelist on the A24 signal.
“When Adorni came to work with us he didn’t have a single coin. He came to work because he had to pay the apartment fee. What 500 thousand fucking dollars are you talking about? You were a laucha who didn’t have a coin, your wife had all her teeth crooked,” Etchecopar highlighted with unusual anger and closed: “Do you think we’re all idiots?”
A significant moment during the La Nación + interview was when the LLA leader revealed that he presented corrective affidavits to the Anti-Corruption Office corresponding to 2023 and 2024, incorporating assets that did not appear in their original presentations. According to his own explanation, the origin is attributed to a combination of savings accumulated over years and profits obtained through investments in cryptocurrencies.
Even another sensitive aspect in the report was precisely the explanation about Bitcoin and other digital assets by the Chief of Staff. The official stated that he had invested approximately $200,000 in cryptocurrencies and that these operations would have generated profits close to $300,000, an argument used to justify much of the asset growth observed in recent years.
In this context, another politically explosive event arose: the adherence to the regime known as “Tax Innocence”, a tool created by Law 27,799 promoted by the government of Javier Milei. The rule raised the thresholds for configuring tax crimes and created simplified mechanisms to regularize undeclared assets and income.
According to information known this week, Bettina Angelettipartner of the libertarian official, entered the regime and later Adorni himself requested to benefit from the simplified system. The decision sparked strong criticism because the libertarian used a tool designed by the LLA administration itself while facing a wealth investigation.
The specialists consulted by different media agree that adherence to Tax Innocence may have tax effects, but it does not prevent or paralyze an investigation for illicit enrichment, money laundering or corruption. For this reason, even after the asset rectifications announced by Adorni on LN+, the judicial case remains open and evidentiary measures are maintained on real estate, consumption, banking transactions and operations with cryptocurrencies.
