The next hurdle that AZ will have to overcome is the home match against FC Volendam. The fellow provincial is no stranger to Martens and his team. In recent months, they have already played against their fellow provincials three times. Once in the Premier League and twice in a practice match.

“FC Volendam made it difficult for many teams at the start of the competition. They have specific weapons, with a lot of length in the team,” Martens refers to striker Henk Veerman.
“In Volendam we had enough chances to take control of the game. We allowed ourselves to be defeated too easily at a corner. That was another moment where we were not manly enough. We have to do that better,” Martens remembers of the 2-2 at De Dijk in early August.
