AZ trumps competitors by bringing in Ruben van Bommel

The second Alkmaar reinforcement for the new season is a fact. AZ reels in Ruben van Bommel. The son of Antwerp coach Mark van Bommel comes over from MVV. With this, AZ dismisses other interested clubs such as FC Twente and Go Ahead Eagles.

With fifteen hits and five assists, Ruben van Bommel stood out this season at MVV in the first division. The youngest son of Mark van Bommel previously announced that he would make a step towards the premier league, but his destination was still unknown. The 18-year-old attacker signed a four-year contract on Thursday afternoon.

Big Dutch club

After signing his contract, Van Bommel said that his choice was based on the good feeling he got at the Alkmaar club. “I was happy to hear that such a large Dutch club wants me. That says something. The conversation was good and then I had to go and see how things were at the club.”

Proud grandson

Funny fact is that his grandfather Bert van Marwijk also played for AZ and won the KNVB Cup in 1978. “He was also a left winger. I think he did well there, so I hope I can do as well .” Last season, the proud grandson of the former national coach was chosen as the greatest talent of the first division.

Last week, AZ already signed the Norwegian David Møller Wolfe. The left back signed a five-year contract.
