De Rijpenaar, who also played for Ajax’s youth team for eight years, is doing well this season in the Premier League. The striker has already scored ten goals in fourteen games and is third on the top scorers list. With the arrival of Hornkamp, AZ is responding to the possible departure of Troy Parrott and the absence of Mexx Meerdink.
“For me it is a fantastic start to the new year,” Hornkamp begins. “I actually wanted to play at Heracles until the summer and then make a move. The moment AZ showed interest, it quickly became clear to me, an easy choice.”
AZ supporters in the family
The Rijpenaar’s family and friends are happy with his switch. “I have many AZ supporters in the family. We are coming to live in the area again, so this is also fantastic for my family. I am looking forward to playing European football. That seems like a very nice stage to show yourself.”
