“For PSV it is not a record transfer,” the Eindhoven club states in a press release. So far, PSV paid the most for Hirving Lozano, who was taken over from Napoli in 2023 for 15 million euros.
New adventure
In the summer of 2023, Ruben van Bommel made the step from MVV to AZ transfer free. In Alkmaar he came to 53 premier league duels and he made nine hits and gave six assists. Van Bommel also played in the youth academy at the current national champion. In addition, father Mark van Bommel has a past as a player and trainer at PSV and is considered a club icon.
AZ’s technical director Max Huiberts recently noticed that Van Bommel hoped for a new adventure. “After a strong end of the season-including a goal in the Play-Offs final-and during the European Championships of the Dutch Juniors, a lot started around Ruben. Despite the conversations we had about a contract extension, Ruben and his entourage were aiming for a transfer.”
