AZ has strengthened itself with Sven Mijnans on the last day of the winter transfer period. The midfielder comes immediately from Sparta Rotterdam and signs a multi-year contract in Alkmaar. The transfer will be confirmed by AZ later today and Mijnans will be presented.
The 22-year-old Mijnans was in the interest of several clubs this winter. For example, Feyenoord, PSV, FC Twente and the German Hertha BSC would have shown interest in the midfielder. AZ eventually turned out to be the most decisive and is now the winner. It has not been announced how much the Alkmaarders have paid for Mijnans.
Amateurs
Mijnans played with the amateurs of Spijkenisse until he was eighteen. Eventually Sparta picked him up and through the highest youth teams Mijnans gradually grew into a stronghold. At Sparta, the number six in the Eredivisie, Mijnans was one of the revelations this season. The brand new acquisition from AZ has already scored three goals in the Eredivisie and has already provided five assists. Mine is after Matthew Ryan and Djordje Mihailovic the third acquisition for AZ this winter.
