Union Berlin has the greatest need for the central defender position for the coming season. As the “Kicker” and “Bild” report, the Eisernen are interested in signing Eray Cömert. The 28-year-old Swiss with Turkish roots is only under contract with FC Valencia until June, which is why he will be available on the market for a free transfer in the summer.

Diogo Leite (27) and Danilho Doekhi (27) will leave Union for free, which is why the gap in the center of defense is particularly large. However, due to the constellation with two expiring working papers, the Köpenick team will not generate any transfer fee. Cömert would therefore be an obvious solution. The “Bild” already writes that negotiations are well advanced, the “Kicker” only reports great interest in Cömert, which also coincides with transfer market information. There can be no talk of an imminent arrival yet. Spanish and Italian clubs should also keep an eye on the professional.
Cömert’s market value is 2.5 million euros. The right-footer was upgraded from 2 million to 2.5 million euros in the last LaLiga update after suffering a loss three times since 2024. In the current season, the defensive man has made 18 appearances (two goals) for 1,479 minutes. Cömert had to sit out most of the first half of the season, but fought for a regular place under coach Carlos Corberán in January – he recently missed two games due to injury.
Union Berlin: Three new additions to the defense are on the way
At the beginning of 2022, the 20-time Swiss national player Cömert moved from his training club FC Basel to Valencia for 800,000 euros. He spent the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons on loan at FC Nantes and Real Valladolid.
The changes will give Union’s defense a new look for the 2026/27 season. According to Sky, Marvin Friedrich (30) is returning after four and a half years when his contract in Mönchengladbach ends, and the commitment of Royal Antwerp’s Zeno Van Den Bosch (22) until 2030 should also have been confirmed for a long time. However, both transfers have not yet been officially announced. It is not yet clear which coach Cömert, Friedrich and Van Den Bosch would face at the Alte Försterei. Marie-Louise Eta only took over until the end of the season.
