Author Rushdie in Frankfurt – book fair opens to reading public

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – This year’s Peace Prize winner Salman Rushdie is expected at the Frankfurt Book Fair on Friday (10 a.m.). The security precautions at the press conference are likely to be enormous because the Indian-British author was seriously injured in an assassination attempt in 2022 after years of persecution by Islamic extremists. On Sunday, the 76-year-old will receive the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in the Paulskirche.

After two days of trade visitors, private visitors can also visit the site on Friday. At 2 p.m. the book fair opens its doors to the reading public. In the afternoon there is also a conversation between book fair boss Juergen Boos and the president of the European football association UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin. The youth literature prize is also awarded./DP/jha/
