Austria’s biggest win so far was a 9-0 win against Malta. On Thursday, however, coach Ralf Rangnick’s team trumped this result.

With a strong performance, Austria’s national team was in top form in the World Cup qualification. There was a clear 10-0 win against San Marino in Vienna – it is the biggest win in the history of the ÖFB team. The previous record, a 9-0 win against Malta in 1977, was surpassed.

Led by an outstanding Marko Arnautovć, team boss Ralf Rangnick’s team gave San Marino no chance. The striker scored four goals (8th/47th/83rd/84th) and is now the sole record goalscorer in Austrian international history with 45 goals.

Stefan Posch also scored twice (30th/42nd), with further goals contributed by Romano Schmid (7th), Michael Gregoritsch (24th), Bayern star Konrad Laimer (45th) and Nikolaus Wurmbrand (76th).

After five wins from five games, Austria leads qualifying group H with 15 points. With three games still to play, the chances of participating in the ninth World Cup in the association’s history are very good.

Two points behind the ÖFB team is Bosnia-Herzegovina, which dropped points in the 2-2 draw with Cyprus and has already played one more game. Only the group winner qualifies directly, the second place has to go into the play-offs.
