Gail’s sister Heather (66) and her husband Ian Wilkinson were also present. Don, Gail and Heather died, only Ian survived the dinner.
Four family members were struggling with serious complaints after this dinner and went to the hospital. They were soon transferred to a larger hospital in Melbourne for specialized medical help. But for three eaters, the sisters Heather and Gail and the 70-year-old Grandpa Don, the help came too late.
The 68-year-old pastor Ian Watkins has survived the dinner. It was previously reported that he might need a liver transplant, but the man recovered enough to be allowed to leave the hospital in Melbourne later without that major operation.
Lots of international attention to poisonous mushroom lunch
The case against Patterson in Morwell in the Australian state of Victoria received a lot of international media attention in recent months.
The BBC reports that Patterterson was silent by the jury’s ruling. During the court case, she insisted that the toxic mushrooms had mistakenly ended up in the dish.
The Australian risks a life sentence.
