ATP tournament: opening win for Struff, Otte and Almaier already eliminated

Jan-Lennard Struff confidently won his opening match at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart. For last year’s finalist Oscar Otte, the Boss Open ended early. Daniel Altmaier also lost his first round game.

Tennis pro Jan-Lennard Struff prevented a German first-round debacle with a clear success at the lawn tournament in Stuttgart. The 33-year-old from Sauerland won his opening game against the Chinese Zhang Zhizhen 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday.

Struff meets Paul or Bonzi in round two

After a 0: 1, the world number 24 dominated. the game with powerful basic strokes and a strong serve. In just 57 minutes, Struff was the only one from a German trio to make it into the round of 16 and in the round of the top 16 he met the American Tommy Paul or the French Benjamin Bonzi.

Otte has to admit defeat to Frenchman Barrère

Oscar Otte, on the other hand, had to admit defeat to Frenchman Grégoire Barrère in the first round of the Boss Open at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart. The 29-year-old from Cologne lost 4:6 and 3:6 on Tuesday morning.

Otte missed several break chances

A tight game developed at the beginning, in which Otte and Barrère initially brought all their serves through. Only when the score was 4: 4 did Otte suddenly have to fend off two break balls. With a double fault, however, he gave the 29-year-old the opportunity to win the first set. Otte didn’t have much to counter the strong serves and lost the set 4:6.

In the second set, Otte missed several break chances when the score was 3:3, only to have to accept the break himself in return. After that, Barrère didn’t let anything get in the way and confidently made it into the round of 16, where he meets Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Daniel Altmaier has also already retired

Daniel Altmaier had to admit defeat in his first match at the Boss Open at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart.

With Daniel Altmaier from Kempen, another German player dropped out of the Stuttgart tennis tournament early on Tuesday afternoon. The 24-year-old clearly lost to Australian Christopher O’Connell in straight sets 6-3 and 6-1.

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev canceled his start in Stuttgart after losing the semifinals in Roland Garros due to a slight thigh injury.
