Alexander Zverev has successfully continued his preparation for the prestigious Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon and can have hopes for the first lawn title.
The quarter-final match at the ATP Rasurnier in Stuttgart won the world ranking third with 7: 5, 6: 4 against the American Brandon Nakashima. In the preliminary round, the top ripened Hamburger meets the winner of the duel between Jiri Lehecka (Czech Republic), The Jan-Lennard Struff in the round of 16 had switched off, and Ben Shelton (USA) – and continues to have the chance of his first title on the green. “It was actually a good match for the second match on lawn. The level was better today than yesterday,” Zverev said. “I am happy that I opened as I opened.”
Lots of sun and full house in Stuttgart
Most recently, the Tokyo Olympic champion started six years ago and never penetrated to the quarter-finals. Nakashima was now waiting there, against which Zverev had a flawless balance sheet (3: 0). However, he could remember none of the duels (most recently at the US Open 2024), Zverev admitted. At the start of the match at high temperatures, the plump sun and full house, the 28-year-old made too many unscathed mistakes, but was able to rely on the good serve in dangerous situations. Meanwhile, Nakashima looked more stable in his game.
“Hard physical week” for Zverev
In the crucial phase of the first round, Zverev got a break without his counterpart to score and then secured the first set with his own serve. In passing two breaks Zverev early and after 1:30 hours, after his own serve, posted his sixth semi-finals to lawn. Zverev had his first game after the first round and unemployed in Stuttgart against the Frenchman Corentin Moutet with a little troublebut won in two sets. It wasn’t the most beautiful matchbut he was happy to have come on at the Weissenhof and to be able to advance the preparation for Wimbledon. “I will train through this week, take it as a hard physical week,” said Zverev, who will also open at the Rasmurnier in Halle/Westphalia (from June 14).
