ATP 500 in Beijing: Sinner-Alcaraz possible in the semifinals

The 500 starts the day after tomorrow in China: Jannik’s debut with the British Evans. The Spaniard, however, could also cross paths with Musetti. Sonego drawn in Medvedev’s side

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on a collision course again. The draw made for the ATP 500 in Beijing, which starts the day after tomorrow in China, could offer a great challenge between the Italian and the Spanish former world number one in the semi-final, given that the scoreboard sees them both on the same side but on the two opposite sides.

jannik’s path

Not only that: between Jannik and Carlos there is also Holger Rune, the Dane born in 2003 who has been in crisis for months now but always unpredictable, and who could find Sinner in the hypothetical quarter-finals. Difficult, given the form shown by Mouratoglou’s former protégé in recent times, but two “next next gen” matches between these three 20 year olds or so wouldn’t be bad. Sinner, seeded number 6 in a top-class draw for a 500m player, will make his debut in the first round against the British Daniel Evans, to then meet the winner of the match between the Chinese Juncheng Shang and the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. Not a walk in the park. Then, as mentioned, the quarter-finals against Rune (according to projections), and then possibly Alcaraz in the semifinals. There is a lot of curiosity about the return of Jannik, who has not played since the painful defeat in the round of 16 against Alexander Zverev at the US Open, and in China he wants to close the discussion regarding qualification for the Finals.

musetti and sonego

Carlos Alcaraz, number two in the world and seeded number one, will instead make his debut with a qualifier and then could enter, once again, at odds with the path of Lorenzo Musetti, who first, however, will have to beat Karen Khachanov in a difficult match. The other Italian in the draw, Lorenzo Sonego, will make his debut against the Frenchman Ugo Humbert and then could challenge the Russian Andrey Rublev or the British Cameron Norrie, in the same side as the number two seed and number three in the world, Daniil Medvedev, who he will make his debut against Tommy Paul and then possible challenge, once again, against the Russian’s “bete noire”, the Australian Alex de Minaur.
