Enrique Collar plays a key role in Atlético Madrid’s history. Shortly before the turn of the year, the club announced his death.
Atlético Madrid mourns the loss of club legend Enrique Collar. The former captain of the Spanish top club has died at the age of 91. Collar led the club to significant success in the 1960s.
The former striker was a defining figure at Atlético Madrid from 1953 to 1969. He scored 105 goals in 470 competitive games. As captain, he won one championship title and three cups with the club. He also won the European Cup Winners’ Cup with the “Rojiblancos”.
In a statement, Atlético Madrid praised Collar as a “symbol who gave his all to bring Atlético Madrid to the top of domestic and continental football.” In addition to his club career, Collar played 16 international matches for the Spanish national team and took part in the 1962 World Cup in Chile. After his time at Atlético, he played one more season for Valencia FC before ending his career in 1970.
